CPU-Z CPU Temperature: Why It Is Missing and What to Use

Quick answer: CPU-Z focuses on CPU identification, clock rates and memory; use HWMonitor to inspect available thermal sensors in Windows.

Why CPU-Z may not show temperature

CPU-Z primarily identifies the processor, motherboard, memory and graphics subsystem. Temperature monitoring is not the main function of its CPU tab; a missing thermal reading there is not by itself a software error.

Read thermal sensors in HWMonitor

Open HWMonitor on Windows and look for your CPU package or core temperature entries when supported. Sensor labels vary between Intel and AMD hardware, firmware, monitoring controllers and versions. Some laptops expose only a subset of readings.

Interpret the temperatures in context

Compare idle, typical workloads and a brief CPU-intensive workload. A short temperature spike is not equivalent to sustained thermal throttling. Check CPU frequency, power limits and fan behavior as well as the temperature number.

When the reading is absent or implausible

Check BIOS/UEFI hardware-monitoring data, update chipset or device firmware through the system vendor, and compare with another reputable sensor tool. Do not treat an isolated impossible value as a definite hardware problem.

Frequently asked questions

Does CPU-Z monitor CPU temperature?

Use a dedicated sensor monitoring tool such as HWMonitor for the available CPU temperature readings.

Can HWMonitor show every sensor?

No. Availability depends on motherboard controllers, firmware, drivers and hardware support.
